Personal Effectiveness for Managers and Leaders
Understanding the impact that managers and leaders have on their team, and how that then drives their teams’ emotion and behaviour is a crucial component to becoming a great manager and leader. Managers and leaders will know how they can significantly improve their teams’ behaviour through examining and changing their own.  We have found that the vast majority of managers are not aware of the impact their behaviour, even with the best of intentions, has on their teams.  The outcomes for this workshop are for managers to leave with:

  • The ability and a plan to directly improve the behaviours of their teams so this has a direct impact on results
  • Solutions to overcome the behavioural challenges found in many teams so that these are no longer an issue in the workplace
  • Able to positively impact the culture of their team and take greater responsibility for their role in team members’ performance

Effective Delegation

The ability to truly delegate effectively is a learnable skill yet one which is rarely mastered.  Although often overlooked, once grasped it can significantly enhance people’s ability to manage their workload, empower their team, maximise resources and add even more value to the organisation.  Have you ever decided to delegate something and found that it took too long to explain it to the other person, and, even after all that time explaining it, discovered that you needed to do it again or correct large parts of it?  Or perhaps you’ve experienced delegating an urgent project that just needs finishing off while you meet with a client, only to come back and find the assignment hasn’t even been started.  Maximising delegation is critical to the potential success of any manager or leader. This topic looks at:

  • Simple, easily applied steps to successful delegation
  • Increasing confidence to delegate
  • Understanding what to delegate to maximise time, productivity and value
  • The simple but incredibly effective process of delegation so that this can be used over and over again
  • Ensuring that both the standard and timeliness of what comes back is what was wanted and needed whilst reducing the potential stress and anxiety of delegating
  • Empower the team to bring the best of themselves to the tasks and activities which are delegated to them
  • Leaving with greater confidence in colleagues knowing that they can and will do the tasks and activities which are delegated to them.

Creating Team Motivation

This training is specifically designed for all managers and leaders responsible for motivating their teams.  The motivation of others is a highly valuable skill which once learned and applied can have a huge impact on the performance not just of the team but the organisation too.  We will provide delegates with the tools, techniques and frameworks to be able to motivate team members and raise their performance on an even more consistent basis.  By attending this workshop people will learn how to:

  • Motivate others when performance has dropped in order to sustain team performance
  • Maximise the potential of the team so they are consistently more effective and achieving the goals of the organisation
  • Quickly and easily re-energise and motivate the team during quiet times

Effective Appraisals

The purpose of this topic is to help you drive performance improvement in your team through conducting even more effective appraisals.  Designed to sit along side existing appraisal training, this workshop addresses the challenges of conventional appraisals, namely that all too often appraisals become an adversarial meeting where the manager has difficulty getting their point across successfully and the appraisee becomes defensive and closed to change.  As a result managers learn to loathe appraisals and employees fear them.  This workshop gives a number of approaches and a wealth of techniques and tactics to ensure that the appraisals conducted are structured, productive and positive.  Delegates will leave this training with;

  • The skills to avoid the most common pitfalls of poor appraisals so that people don’t waste their valuable time doing so
  • Competence in turning potential conflict into positive behavioural change which ultimately impacts the bottom line of the organisation
  • Development of an appraisal approach that fits the organisation
  • How to set clear objectives and get the buy in of the appriasee to these
  • The ability to sell the value of the appraisal process even more effectively
  • An understanding of the importance of clarifying employee roles and defining clear performance standards which meet these

Having a compelling vision for the team, department or organisation itself is a vital requirement for maximising the potential of any organisation. Having a compelling vision gives people a reason to go to work, creates emotional loyalty and gives people clarity and allows people to plan to achieve their part in the vision. As a result of this course delegates will get and leave with:

Principles of Management

The purpose of this training is to help managers manage both themselves and their teams even more effectively.  Many managers are promoted because they excelled in a previous role, not necessarily because they were good at managing other people.  Managers are also often confused as to what their real role and purpose is to the organisation, not always because the organisation hasn’t told them, but because they haven’t always made the complete transition from doing a job to managing a process.  After attending this course managers will:

  • Understand how they can take a lead on accountability to ensure they and their teams follow through and implement their actions
  • Realise their contribution to the greater organisational whole and how they can manage the processes which support this even more effectively
  • Sharpen their skills to better manage the performance of colleagues
  • Solve some of their immediate management challenges by changing their thinking to take a different viewpoint

Enhancing Performance through KPI’s

Knowing how to manage up the performance of employees, and being able to unlock the full potential of staff are key determinants of effective management and leadership.  This training explores how it is possible to boost morale, performance and team spirit through the management of KPI’s.  By attending this training delegates will be able to;

  • More effectively assess and monitor performance to make enhancements easier to attain
  • Set clear and effective goals for the team so that they can approach these with even greater confidence

Avoiding Conflict

Although some managers and leaders believe conflict to be a stimulus of progress, many people try their hardest to avoid it.  Unless conflict is managed in a proactive and productive way, the consequences of teams and individuals being in, or avoiding conflict can be huge.  The purpose of this training is to share proven techniques to help people manage and deal with conflict as effectively as possible.  Delegates will learn how to;

  • Harness the energy generated by office politics and channel it to productive use
  • Take preventative action to avoid potential conflict in the future
  • Deal with conflict efficiently and effectively when it arises to bring both parties back to working towards their outcomes
  • Understand why they avoid it and be able to stop avoiding it in the future
  • Deal with people who enjoy conflict and seem to work to create it

Coaching Performance Improvement in Others

Learning how to be an effective coach will enhance the career of both the coach and person being coached.  This workshop is especially tailored for those in a management position with responsibility for the development of staff. It will give you the basic skills to coach effectively, and to apply coaching techniques to your team to improve their attitude, behaviour and results. Workshop outcomes include:

  • Understanding the role coaching plays in the workplace so this can be applied to help maximise the business
  • Knowing the different questioning techniques to identify the needs, motivations and inner thought processes of others in order to help them help themselves
  • How to make sure the focus stays on the coachee’s requirements and strengths rather than the coach’s expertise
  • How to reach a workable progress plan, including appropriate goals and acceptable measures of success so that others benefit from their interaction with you
  • Establishing and maintaining a supporting, non-judgemental relationship with the person being coached to help maximise their potential
  • How to build a focus on outcomes to ensuring accountability is absolutely clear and appropriate support put in place.
